Eight months after Denmark

Mr. Volodymyr Osadchyy runs a farm in Uman, Ukraine, with pigs, dairy cows and 5000 ha. of land. He and his farm manager went to Denmark in June 2005 on a danishknowhow training program.

What was your impression after visiting Denmark?

This trip really gave me a headache. It started a lot of considerations about how to manage my farm in the future. First thing I realized was that we should change our way of feeding both in pig and cattle herd.

What has been the results of this?

In pig finisher department the daily grow has doubled. Before it was 250 grams per day ? but the new feed made it go up to 500 grams. So in the same facilities we can grow twice as many pigs, and we saved cost on maintenance feed.

And in the dairy herd?

Also here we changed the feed and our yield went up with 500 kg. per cow per year. We have about 250 cows so today we produce around 125.000 liters of milk more than before.

What will happen in the future?

I still have a lot of consideration and changes I have to make. We call it the ?Danish syndrome? here in Ukraine. I plan to expand my farm further in the future and I will definitely continue to use danishknowhow for consulting and training of my staff.
